About Us

Don Vidoli and Jim Reilly met at Kennedy Motors in Stratford, CT during the summer of 1976. Don then moved on to corporate America with a successful career in technical sales and marketing. Jim eventually went on to Traynor Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen in Fairfield, CT where he became a Registered Porsche + Audi Master Technician and was later honored as one of 150 Top Audi Technicians.

One cold February morning in 1987, more than ten years after they met, Don and Jim sat drinking coffee in the offices of their new business German Car Care. Over those steaming cups they looked at each other and wondered, "Is this going to work?"

They didn't have to wonder for very long. Gradually German Car Care became "the place" to bring your German automobile for service, repair, or high performance modifications.

In 1989 German Car Care became a Bosch Authorized Service Center. This affiliation with Bosch requires a high level of technician skill and a significant investment in state of the art diagnostic equipment.

German Car Care's reputation continued to grow and in 1991 The Fairfield Advocate's "Best Of Fairfield County Readers Poll" awarded German Car Care with the "Best Place To Fix A Foreign Car" award.

Shortly thereafter Don and Jim moved the business to its current location in Fairfield, CT and renamed it Fairfield County Motorsport. By now the business also employed two full time technicians each with significant automotive backgrounds.

During the mid 90s Don and Jim began devoting significant time to the Connecticut Valley Region (CVR) of the Porsche Club of America, in particular the Driver's Education Track Program (DE). From 1995-2000 Don was the Technical Chairman for CVR. In addition Don and Jim both played roles as the Chief Technical Inspectors for the Driver's Education program. Progression through the DE program saw Don and Jim become track instructors in 1998 and in a few years achieved national instructor status. They have instructed for various clubs including Audi, BMW, Track Masters and others.

A lifelong love of cars and driving combined with the DE experience brought about the creation of "Checkers", a highly modified Porsche 944 Turbo. Fairfield County Motorsport uses this vehicle as a means of demonstrating the capabilities of the business as well as a research and development tool for track oriented high performance parts.

The millennium has seen continued company growth. Customer turned employee Drew Wikstrom came on board in the fall of 2000. Drew who is a CVR member and became part of the CVR instructor corps, he brought with him a lifelong passion for cars and driving. Drew eventually progressed to developing his career as a professional driving instructor.

In 2002 a new challenge was underway, approached by Mark Davia, FCM committed their efforts toward preparing his 2002 Porsche 996 turbo to enter and complete in the “One Lap of America” race, a grueling 8 day event modeled after the “Cannonball Run” legitimized and organized by Brock Yates. 2002 and 2003 were used to learn the event and how best to configure the car and team to win. After two races, lots of notes, tests and tweaking finally pairing Mark as the diver with Drew as the navigator entered the 2004 event for the win in the top class. The team then went on to win the next 4 events for a total of 5 consecutive wins and retire undefeated in 2008, an outstanding record in any event. The record still stands today.

During the time the team was winning the “One Lap” FCM was contacted by Zak Brown owner of “Just Marketing” a Motorsports marketing company who at the time handled the marketing and sponsors for two Formula 1 teams and four NASCAR teams. Asked if FCM would organize their arrive and drive program along with building race car for hot laps. Don and Jim developed their program and trained their personnel over a 3 year period. It was a great opportunity meet and work with some of the greats in the Motorsport world not to mention honing skills. Zak later sold Just Marketing and went on to be Chief Executive for McLaren Racing.

In more recent years Don and Jim have refocused efforts in two areas, the base business, investing in capabilities and technology of modern vehicles, and at the same time maintaining and restoring many of the popular older vehicles.

A short while ago “Sloan Motors” a dealer of fine Porsche vehicles leased space in a building very near FCM and although both are separate businesses, there is a synergy that helps make a complete customer experience through the cumulative knowledge and resources.
